Introduction (15 points): In the introduction section, summarize research findings that label “body art” either deviant or just personal expression. Does the research indicate a difference between those who are breaking a norm and those who are part of a subculture? What reasons are given for this behavior? Use a minimum of 3 scholarly resources in your research.

2. Methods (5 points): For your methods section, you are to interview a minimum of 4 people in each of the two following categories: 4 people who have body piercing/tattoos and 4 people who do not. In addition to asking why people chose body art or not, ask many of the following questions:
• What do you think of this behavior?
• What is the line between acceptable body adornment and behaviors that cross the line?
• Is there a difference between a woman with pierced ears and a man with pierced ears?
• Is there a difference between one hole in an ear lobe and five holes in an ear lobe?
• Is there a difference between a pierced ear and a pierced eyebrow?
• Is there normal piercing and deviant piercing? Is there a subculture of piercing?
• If there is deviant piercing, does this behavior in an individual link them to other deviant subcultures?
• Is this behavior in this culture any different than enlarged ear lobes, discs in the lips, or bones and feathers in nasal cartilage that are traditionally accepted in some societies?
• Do the responses differ depending on where tattoos are located and what they depict?

Describe who your interview subjects are, and give demographic information such as age, race, and gender.

3. Results (10 points): In your results section, make a table with columns/create a chart showing the differences between how the two groups answered the questions. You do not need to list every question but give an overview of how deviance was described by the two groups. Were there differences based on demographics?

4. Discussion (20 points): Discuss your results to the questions and how these findings match/do not match with the research. Correctly cite and support your analysis and conclusions with your researched findings. What are the implications for faith and the choices people make about body art?
