History Teaching
Mr & Mrs Smith are concerned that their child is not gaining sufficient knowledge in History as when they were at school they were taught differently.
When they
laughed History they were able to identify important dates, facts and figures. They feel a lot of class time is being wasted in group activities and students finding
information rather than the teacher supplying it. The Teacher has given them some information about the content in the new History syllabus but they are looking
forward to class information night where the teacher will be explaining the pedagogical approaches that are used to teach history in the primary classroom. THIS ESSAY
REQUIRES YOU TO WRITE THE EXPLANATION THE TEACHER WILL GIVE PARENTS ON THE PEDAGOGICAL APPROACHES UTILISED TO TEACH THE CONTENT OF HISTORY IN THE PRIMARY CLASSROOM.
THE TASK IN DETAIL: Define and explain the pedagogical approaches that underpin current teaching of history in primary education. Demonstrate an understanding of terms
such as transmission teaching, constructivism, explicit teaching, historical skills, conceptual development, contestability, empathetic understanding, historical
inquiry, guided discovery and perspective. Show evidence of research by including references from readings.
