“Employer’s Attitude towards Job Training: Cost and Benefit in a Hotel Industry”

Introduction:

Coaching employees is an investment in any business, commercial or corporate. Some prominent figures in the corporate world regard staff or employees as the most prized asset, thus they focus on making it a top priority that their workers are equipped with latest skills and knowledge. This then leads to achieving the ideal goals of the business. Provision of training to the staff expends their performances for the business and it also escalates job satisfaction for the staff. However that being said there are many versions of training available in the market. The aim of this report is to explore, how the potential reimbursements of training can outweigh the estimated cost involved, in any corporate setting big or small. And to achieve this different questions, hypothesis and objectives will be explored alongside research outline and methodology as to how the research will be carried out in order to support the statement that training employees in itself is an investment into the business and workforce.

Research Questions:

The following questions would be used as the basis of the research:

  1. Why does job training provide the desire result for the employer?

  2. What are the benefits of training for the employer?

  3. What types of training are provided by the employer?

  4. In your opinion, how satisfying are the outcomes of training?

Research Hypothesis:

Ho: Benefits of training out weights the costs involved

H1: Benefits of training does not out weight the costs involved

Research Outline:

The main idea behind this study is to evaluate the outcomes that training is beneficial for the employee in relation to the company.

Research Methodology:

Data Collection Procedure & Methods:

The method which we are using to collect data will be through survey based data and interviews. That will give us primary data outcomes. I will be also visiting IBIS chain of hotels and asking the employers (managers) some questions from the questionnaire which I have developed. The questions which would be asked from the different employers and employees will be quite close ended questions so as to get towards the root of the data what data outcomes which I am expecting from this survey. It doesn’t matter how they respond to my questions.

Sampling Procedures & Techniques:

It will be done on random sampling. Employers in an organization are more biased towards providing training every year, in order to refresh their knowledge about the system. In this scenario I will approach managers and give them equal chance to fill the questionnaire which has been developed. Considering the responses from the questionnaire we will have more accurate information about the perception of the manager/ employer, whether they believe training provided is beneficial or not. Sometimes managers have biased view that man in organization invests once training on an employee. The employee moves to another organization.  The questionnaire will give us a rough estimate of the employer’s point of view towards training.

Sample Size:

The sample size proposed for this project is around 10 employers (managers) from IBIS hotels.

Data Compilation Mechanism:

The mechanism used for data compilation will be questionnaire which will be having two parts as one part will be for the employee end and the other part will be for the employer end. All close ended questions will be asked in the questionnaire so as to get the pinpoint information.

Research Model:

The developed model for this project will truly focus on the benefits of training and in the contradictory statement we can say that does the training cost surpass the benefits of training. The relationship between them in this model will be deeply analysed.

Research Location:

In order to conduct our research I have selected Melbourne region. I will visit IBIS Hotels which are located in the Melbourne city. I will be approaching all the managers by visiting them personally and conducting interviews.

Research Outcome:

The expected outcome of this research would be that most of the managers would agree that the benefits of training would outweigh the costs of training because well trained employee can save the company from losing money compared to an untrained employee who can potential reason of major loses in the company. Therefore trained employees can save the company, even if not generating profits.
